SSG '11-'12 won with best practices award!

RSHS-9 bags best student government best practices award


Congratulations to the student leaders of the Supreme Student Government of the Regional Science High School(RSHS)-IX who were declared champion of the video competition titled “Art Eskwela: National Search for SSG’s Best Practices”. It bagged more than 6,000 likes on the social network Facebook which they never expected. The awarding was held at Baguio City during the Department of Education (DepED) National Leadership Training for SSG Officers last November 4-8, 2011.

The students were accompanied by their supportive adviser, Florita Myrna P. Patacsil, whom they credit for their success.  Aside from the certificate of recognition, they received a cash prize of Php 15 000 and a brand new cellphone for their adviser. DepEd Executive Director Joey G. Pelaez of The Center for Students and Co-Curricular Affairs personally handed them their awards.

RSHS is a specialized system of public secondary schools in the Philippines and is operated and
supervised by the Department of Education in coordination with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). Its’ curriculum is heavily focused on math and science.

The RSHS System offers scholarships to Filipino students who are gifted in the sciences and mathematics.
Admission to the RSHS is by competitive examination only, and only Filipino citizens are eligible to attend.
Graduates of the RSHS are bound by law to major in the pure and applied sciences, mathematics, or engineering  upon entering college.

In the past years since its creation, RSHS has developed a worldwide reputation as one of the best high
schools in the Philippines, public or private. It attracts an intellectually gifted blend of culturally, ethnically, and economically diverse students.

RSHS-9 is located at Malasiga, San Roque, Zamboanga City and is headed by principal Melanie A. Minez.
